    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has provided an update on their pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro.

Nabi has confirmed he indeed asked the Chiefs board to sign another striker before the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season begins.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“That player [Ighodaro] belongs to another team with administrative issues, but he or another striker that we listed on our transfer list will be welcomed,” Nabi said, as per FARPost.

“For now, we will wait to hear from our administration if he or another striker will join. I saw the player you are asking about last season was playing for AmaZulu, and I believe he’s a good player, but he’s a player that doesn’t belong to our club, and we can’t say much about it," he added.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ighodaro was on loan to AmaZulu last season, under Arthur Zwane, and he scored six goals in 27 games for the Durban-based outfit across all competitions.

Despite signing Ethan Chislett, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Flavio Silva, Chiefs are expected to bolster more before the transfer window ends.

The Glamour Boys have also been linked with Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi, who are set to leave Cape Town Spurs as free agents.

A rigorous campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, PSL, and Nedbank Cup awaits the Soweto giants, and fans expect the new-look squad to deliver.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Nabi's confirmation of the pursuit of another striker could be a testament to the fact that he is not entirely satisfied with his current attackers.

Last season, he complained he did not have a lethal striker, something he would be keen to have solved when the new campaign begins.

Silva, Glody Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris, and any other new striker who will join Amakhosi will be judged by their ability to score goals regularly and solve the goal-scoring crisis at Naturena.
