    WHAT HAPPENED?

After opting against renewing his Orlando Pirates contract, Jose Riveiro is said to be on his way to Al Ahly to replace Marcel Koller.

The 49-year-old leaves the Buccaneers after winning trophies five times in the three years he was at the club.

Reports suggest that Al Ahly are yet to announce Riveiro's appointment due to some sticking issues and the coach himself has broken his silence on the speculation about his future.

    WHAT RIVEIRO SAID

“I cannot tell you if it is not announced, I cannot tell you,” said Riveiro as per FARPost.

“I have this confidentiality thing. So it is not my role, my responsibility to announce, but I think it is going to be very soon.

“But moving to a different place is not easy… this move is an opportunity to challenge myself, to test myself. I’m not really thinking about what the outcome is going to be; the intention is to fight for the best as usual, but let’s see."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

If Riveiro is confirmed as Al Ahly coach, it would be his second job in Africa, where he debuted at Pirates.

While the Buccaneers were patient with him when he missed out on the Premier Soccer League title three times, plus this season's Caf Champions League, it would be a different story in Egypt.

The Cairo giants are highly demanding and would be unforgiving, especially if he fails to deliver on the Champions League trophy.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

Anticipation has gripped Pirates fans who are anxiously waiting to learn who will be their next coach with names like Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy and Fadlu Davids being thrown around.

In the meantime, Mandla Nacikasi will take charge of the Buccaneers' remaining four PSL games.
