    WHAT HAPPENED?

Jose Riveiro is leaving Orlando Pirates at the end of this season after three seasons at the club.

A number of names have been thrown around as the Spaniard's possible replacements, including that of Fadlu Davids who has previously worked at the Buccaneers.

Davids' agent Rasthoem Sumons has reacted to rumours linking the current Simba SC coach with a return to Pirates.

    WHAT SIMONS SAID

“We have seen these reports,” Simons told Soccer Laduma.

"I can confirm that there was absolutely no contact with Orlando Pirates. Thus, there is no need to comment on declining the offer to return as there wasn't one.

"Coach Fadlu spent more than three years at the club, and we have the utmost respect for its processes.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Since leaving Pirates in June 2022, Davids has been gaining experience working outside South Africa in Russia at Lokomotiv Moscow, Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and now at Simba.

That has made his CV attractive, especially after the work he has been doing in Tanzania, where he is chasing a treble.

Simba are in the Caf Confederation Cup final, as well as the Tanzania Federation Cup semi-finals.

They are also currently on a 19-match unbeaten run in the Tanzanian league, which has taken them four points behind log leaders Young Africans.

    WHAT NEXT FOR DAVIDS?

As Pirates are currently focusing on Saturday's Nedbank Cup finals against Kaizer Chiefs, Davids will be focused on Sunday's league clash with KMC away.

Simba will also face Singida Black Stars in the Federation Cup semi-finals next Friday.
