Why Al Ahly are delaying in announcing Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro appointment - 'There are three points of disagreement'

Jose Riveiro took charge of his last Orlando Pirates match against Golden Arrows on Tuesday.

It had already been announced that the Spaniard will not be renewing his Buccaneers contract when it expires on June 30.

Riveiro has been linked with a move to Al Ahly and former Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed Shobair has stated why the Cairo giants are yet to formalise Riveiro's appointment.

"Jose Rivero is one of the names strongly suggested to coach Al-Ahly, and he is the closest, but there are still some things separating him from coaching Al-Ahly," Shobair said on On Sport FM.

"There are three points of disagreement between Al-Ahly and Rivero, and they have nothing to do with financial matters.

"One disagreement ended yesterday, and two remain, which are matters related to the assistant staff and the powers within the apparatus. These are points that can be resolved.”

After Riveiro reached six Cup finals in three seasons, the next Pirates coach has a tough task to at least match that.

The man who will take charge at Pirates will be under pressure to match the Spanish tactician, who arrived at Pirates with no experience in African football.

Another big task for the new Buccaneers coach would be to help the club win the PSL title for the first time since 2012.

The upcoming days will fill football followers with anticipation to see if Riveiro will be announced as Al Ahly's coach.

If appointed Al Ahly coach, there are chances Riveiro will face South African sides in Caf inter-club competitions.
