Two British ring warriors go head-to-head in a huge heavyweight showdown on August 16. It’s the feature bout on what is set to be a riveting Riyadh card. While no belt is on the line, there’s plenty at stake for both competitors, Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte. Itauma is a rising star who’s looking to maintain his impressive surge up the heavyweight rankings. Whyte, who’s been there, done it and got the t-shirt, is on the comeback trail and is aiming to prove to the doubters that he is still a relevant force in the division.
Dillian Whyte still dreams of going to war with the big heavyweights on the planet in front of huge sell-out crowds at some of the world’s jaw-dropping arenas, but he knows he needs to start making headlines and fast, and he requires a top-notch performance against Itauma.
‘The Body Snatcher’ has, of course, mixed it with the best around in the division. He was beaten by Anthony Joshua way back in 2015, won two slugfests with Derek Chisora and beat Joseph Parker on points in 2018. However, Whyte’s biggest night of his career to date came in April 2022, when he clashed with Tyson Fury for the WBC crown, with the Gypsy King stopping him in the 6th at Wembley.
Whyte was preparing for another shot against AJ in 2023, but he received a doping ban after testing positive for steroids ahead of the scheduled fight, which saw him sidelined from the sport for a lengthy period. He was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing last year and returned from a 16-month ring absence in March 2024 to beat Christian Hammer in Ireland. The German boxer retired after three rounds, with Whyte well on top. His latest opponent, Ebenezer Tetteh, was also forced to retire after seven rounds of their clash last December. Compared to those recent fights, this Itauma encounter is a significant step up, though, and the Whyte camp is fully aware of that.
Moses Itauma, a 20-year-old born in Slovakia but now fighting out of Kent, England, has made a blistering start to his professional career. The scintillating southpaw hit the ground running when blowing away Marcel Bode after just 23 seconds of his debut bout at Wembley Arena in January 2023. It's been a rapid rise up the heavyweight ladder for ‘Wrecking Ball’ since then, as he’s clocked up another 11 wins within the space of just 28 months to take his record to 12-0. The fact that Itauma has stopped 10 of his previous opponents in either the 1st or 2nd rounds also gives him an added wow factor that makes him an instant crowd pleaser.

Despite the amazing start to his career, Itauma knows that he cannot afford to take the upcoming test too lightly. Whyte is a seasoned pro, and he acts as an effective yardstick to see just how good the youngster is. At present, Moses Itauma is ranked No.1 by the WBO, and he would be next in line to fight Joseph Parker for that strap if Oleksandr Usyk chooses to vacate the belt rather than face his mandatory, as many are anticipating.
The heavyweight bout between Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte may be the feature contest on the August 16 card, but there are plenty of other mouthwatering match-ups, including Nick Ball vs Sam Goodman and Filip Hrgovic vs David Adeleye. It’s all set up to be a thrilling night of action, so let GOAL give you all the vital information you need ahead of the standout event, including full details of the fight card and how you can watch and stream all the live action.
