The Eredivisie leaders stayed just ahead of Ajax on Sunday but had to come from two goals down after a shaky start from their goalkeeper

Feyenoord survived an early error from Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones on Sunday to draw 2-2 with PEC Zwolle but their Eredivisie lead has been cut to one point by Ajax.

Jones, 35, has missed just two league games for Feyenoord this season in an impressive debut campaign for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side but the former Liverpool gloveman was shaky early against Zwolle.

Considering Jones' form this term, he was a somewhat surprising omission from Ange Postecoglou's squad for the Socceroos' World Cup qualifiers last month.

Jones' brilliant season continues

But perhaps Jones' performance against Zwolle justified Postecoglou's decision.

In just the third minute, Jones came charging off his line to thwart Queensy Menig but failed to make contact with the ball or player as Zwolle's forward sidestepped the Australian to open the scoring.

Zwolle is the future home of ex-Melbourne City coach John van 't Schip, who will take over from Rob Jans next season.

Jones' poor start continued in the 13th minute when Bram van Polen doubled Zwolle's lead from a tight angle but Feyenoord dragged a goal back before the break through Steven Berghuis.

The visiting midfielder blasted the ball past Zwolle goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart in the 26th minute and then levelled the match eight minutes into the second half with a brilliant effort from outside the area.

The draw took the Rotterdam-based club to 73 points in the Eredivisie with four games remaining but Ajax (72) are breathing down Feyenoord's necks after thumping NEC Nijmegen 5-1.
