FIFA has issued its sanctions a month after the unfortunate brawl that broke out following the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, with the penalties covering everyone involved in the incidents.
Leandro Paredes copped a 10-match ban as the most violent figure in the closing minutes, while Nahuel Molina drew a 7-match suspension for assaulting Rodri without justification. Almada picked up a one-match ban too, punished for holding Gavi while Leandro struck him.
A punch at Dani Olmo earned Ayala a 3-match ban. Gavi got a single game, the only Spanish player sanctioned, for pushing Eric Garcia, who had also been on the end of Paredes' aggression.
FIFA's Disciplinary Committee sanctioned all four members of the Argentina delegation and hit them with heavy financial fines on top.
Paredes and Molina were each fined 77,000 euros. Almada, Ayala, the member of the technical staff and former footballer, and the Barcelona player were each ordered to pay 25,000 euros.
The upshot for Gavi is that he will miss the trip to Wembley to face England on 26 September in the UEFA Nations League.
Under Article 69, paragraphs 2a and 3, of the Disciplinary Code, match suspensions carry over to the subsequent fixtures of the national teams concerned. The three Argentina players will therefore be unavailable during the matches covered by their bans.
