PEC Zwolle have picked up their first win of the new VriendenLoterij Eredivisie season. Henry van der Vegt's side stunned sc Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadion with a 0-2 victory. It was PEC's first away win in all competitions since 28 October 2025 and their first in the Eredivisie since 15 August 2025. For Heerenveen, it was their first defeat of the season.
Van der Vegt kept faith with the same starting XI despite last week's 3-1 defeat at FC Twente. Heerenveen coach Robin Veldman made one change, with Maxence Rivera preferred to Luca Oyen.
Out of the blocks, Heerenveen started fast. Jacob Trenskow, Ringo Meerveld and Sam Kersten all had efforts from distance, but none found the target. Soon after, Dylan Vente saw his free-kick come back off the crossbar.
By the closing stages of the first half, Heerenveen were still creating the better chances. Jasper Schendelaar denied Rivera and Vente, while Trenskow hit the side-netting.
Following the break, PEC suddenly looked a different side. They went 0-1 up when Dylan Mbayo pulled the ball back for Nick Viergever to tap in.
Then things got even better for the visitors. Ten minutes after the opener, Koen Kostons wriggled past a few defenders and fired home for 0-2. Mbayo supplied the assist again.
From there, Heerenveen lost their way, though they still carved out a couple of chances. Substitute Lanroy Machine was denied by Schendelaar, while Levi Smans, back after more than a year of injury misery, shot just wide. At the other end, Heerenveen were fortunate that Viergever's 0-3 was ruled out for offside.
