Kylian Mbappe has apologised for his actions in being sent off during Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 Ligue 1 victory over Nimes.
The World Cup winner was fouled by Teji Savanier three minutes into stoppage time at the end of that encounter and reacted in an angry fashion, pushing the Nimes midfielder over and earning a red card as a consequence.
In the aftermath of the game, the 19-year-old said that if the same incident occurred again, he would act in the same way, prompting Savanier to suggest that he could be in line for a spate of dismissals if he maintains such an attitude.
In his press conference after the match, head coach Thomas Tuchel also asked his players to show more mental fortitude and having taken to social media, Mbappe has now apologised for his actions.
“My dear Parisian supporters, I wish to apologise for myself with regards to my action yesterday evening and then my reaction, which has ruined our excellent team success,” he said. “I’d also like to thank the Paris Ultras for your support again yesterday – it was terrific.”
PSG have made a strong start in Ligue 1, winning their opening four matches of the season to open up a three-point lead over second-placed Dijon.
Mbappe was on the scoresheet alongside Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Edinson Cavani as PSG swept aside newly-promoted Nimes.
