Kenneth Perez loved what he saw from PSV on Sunday. The Eindhoven side were far too strong for FC Groningen at home in a 5-1 win, and the analyst was especially impressed by the front line.
PSV actually went behind at home to Groningen after a goal from Brynjólfur Willumsson. The Eindhoven side quickly turned it around completely.
An own goal from Thijmen Blokzijl and strikes from Ivan Perisic, who scored twice, Ricardo Pepi from the penalty spot and Sergiño Dest eventually wrapped up a 5-1 result at the Philips Stadion.
"What did I think of PSV?" said Perez on Voetbalpraat on ESPN. "What I like about teams like that is that they just sense where the space and the opportunities are."
That approach did give Groningen chances to break dangerously at times. Even so, it largely came to nothing, Perez noted.
"That is classic PSV at the moment. I often try to say this: you do not get punished against these kinds of opponents. You pull away and win 5-1, even though the pressing is very often not right."
Looking at PSV's attacking options, Perez sees an embarrassment of riches. "PSV have a surplus of quality up front. If you look at what they had on the bench: Man, Bajraktarevic, Mijnans, Wanner... At the back they have little. Hopefully that has now been resolved with Geertruida. That is absolutely their weakest line. But up front, by Dutch standards, it is bizarre," he concludes admiringly.
