AS Roma have made an official approach to Feyenoord for Givairo Read, FR12.nl reported on Thursday. The Serie A club have already submitted an opening bid, with the total package worth more than Nottingham Forest's recent offer.
How much AS Roma want to pay for Read, and how many years he could sign for, remains unclear. The Feyenoord right-back is reportedly open to the move to last season's third-placed side in Serie A.
Nottingham Forest are pushing hard to sign Read and have already reached a verbal agreement with his representatives. The defender could sign in England until mid-2031. Over five seasons, excluding bonuses, he could earn €20 million.
Forest have already submitted several offers, the last worth €21 million. Feyenoord want more for Read, who still has three years left on his contract at De Kuip. It remains to be seen whether AS Roma's offer is enough to strike a deal.
Former technical director Dennis te Kloese also told De Telegraaf that no clause has been agreed that would allow Read to leave Feyenoord for €25 million.
Feyenoord view Read as a player for the future. The Rotterdam club therefore want to reopen, improve and extend his current deal. Their plan is to keep him in the Netherlands for at least another year.
Last season, Read also attracted strong interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich. That interest, however, did not lead to a major move to either club.
