- Dutch star reportedly owed €17m
- United have agreed £71m deal to sign him
- Barca's 'bullying' is causing delays
What's the story? Reports suggest that De Jong is owed €17 million (£14.5m/$17m) by Barca in deferred salary payments, a sum which the midfielder is not willing to give up.
That in turn is said to be causing delays to Manchester United's potential signing of De Jong, with Neville the latest to voice his frustrations at the situation.
What's been said? United legend Neville wrote on Twitter: "De Jong should consider legal action v Barcelona and all players should be behind him!
"A club spending fortunes on new players whilst not paying the ones they have under contract their full money is immoral and a breach. FIFPRO should be all over bullying like this and stop it."
The big picture: Neville's intervention is undoubtedly motivated by claims that De Jong is unwilling to leave Barcelona to join United until he is paid the money he is owed.
United have agreed a £71m ($84m) deal to bring De Jong to Old Trafford, and though Barca are keen to get the midfielder off their books this summer, this row threatens to derail the whole agreement.
The verdict: We stand with Frenkie on this one - if he's owed it, pay the man his money! Neville threatening legal action is no doubt coloured by him wanting De Jong to be doing his thing at Old Trafford in a couple of weeks, but he is right that FIFPRO need to get involved if the reports are true.
All we want is for Frenkie to be happy and playing regularly, so can we sort this one out soon please?
