‘Complete nonsense’ - Karius agent denies Besiktas loan termination rumours

The agent of Loris Karius has denied reports that his client’s two-year loan to Besiktas will be terminated early, calling the rumours ‘complete nonsense.’

After a disaster as Liverpool’s No.1 in the Champions League final, and some struggles in the pre-season, Karius saw his spot in the team vanish when the Reds signed Alisson Becker for a then world-record fee.

Karius was offered an escape route to the Turkish Super Lig club before the close of the summer window, with the German goalkeeper joining Besiktas on a two-year loan with an option to buy.

While Karius has featured in seven of the club’s 10 Super Lig games, and all three of their European contests, he found himself back in the news for the wrong reasons after a howler against Malmo in the Europa League.

Reports have now surfaced that the keeper could be on his way back to Liverpool with Besiktas looking to cancel the loan agreement.

Rumours also circulated that Besiktas was aiming to take Divock Origi in exchange in a similar deal which would be a loan with a purchase option.

However, Karius’ agent, Florian Goll, has refuted those reports, claiming the goalkeeper’s spot in the team is secure with Besiktas not looking to end his loan early.

"Complete nonsense! I wonder where such things come from,” Goll told Goal and Spox. “This news is absolutely untrue. Loris is on loan to Besiktas for two years, that's the situation.

“The club has no intention to end this loan contract prematurely. It's fact that Loris is the clear No.1 at Besiktas, he played every game and showed good performances."

The 25-year-old Karius joined Liverpool in the summer of 2016, and was in and out of the team over his two-year career at Anfield.

While he appeared to seize the No.1 job last season, his two high-profile mistakes against Real Madrid while concussed put him back in the firing line.

Karius did start at the weekend for Besiktas amid the rumours, which saw him earn a clean sheet in a 4-0 win over Rizespor and end the clubs four-match winless streak.
