Espanyol's Alex Calatrava has rewritten a rare record in the Spanish league, after he scored his side's opening goal against Real Madrid today, Saturday, in the first round of the competition.
Calatrava struck in the 30th minute for his first goal in the Spanish league, and coming against Real Madrid made it all the sweeter.
With that strike, he became the latest Espanyol player to open his La Liga account against the Royal club.
The last man to do so was Bulgarian Velko Yotov, back on 15 October 1994, when he netted his first goal in the Spanish league in an Espanyol shirt against Real Madrid, according to Mister Chip statistics.
Calatrava's goal drew Espanyol level. Jude Bellingham had put Real Madrid ahead just 9 minutes in, an early advantage at the start of Jose Mourinho's second tenure.
