It was a welcome draw not only in that it was an improvement, but because of how much of a bad point it was for their visitors.<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/record-breaking-beating-lyon-women-champions-league-winners-losers-arsenal/blt641ece8c132e783c" target="_blank">PSG lost at home to Chelsea, the other giant in this group, last week and that made victory in Madrid all the more important</a>. They attacked plenty but Real Madrid rode the storm and even had chances themselves to win the game – a big one in particular falling to France international Sandie Toletti, who fired wide.It was much closer than they came to hurting the Parisians last season and means that, no matter the results in the third matchday in November, they'll reach the halfway point of the group stages at least level on points with the French giants.That'll be a promising position to be in given they're underdogs to progress from a group that features two sides that have reached the Champions League final, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/real-madrid-women-champions-league-contender/blt8fb9c156768a4fab" target="_blank">while Las Blancas are in just their third ever season as a team</a>.

An own goal from striker Melvine Malard levelled things up at 1-1 and somewhat summed up how things are going for them at the moment.It wasn't just the result that made this a bad night for Sonia Bompastor's team, though. Damaris Egurrola was stretchered off after getting tangled up in a collision of bodies, adding yet another injury to Lyon's growing list.Given her ability to play at centre-back, or at least be in a deep midfield position protecting that defence, her time out will be even more significant as the reigning champions have been hit extremely hard in those areas by absences already.

Iceland's starting centre-forward must have been counting the chances she could've scored had she been on the pitch – and she'd have got to a decent number, too.Thorvaldsdottir might not be on Katoto's level but she has all the attributes that PSG are crying out for simply in her positional awareness and ability to be in the right place at the right time. With great feet, quality hold-up play and a knack for the spectacular at times, she has even more to bring to the team, too.All she needs is a chance to show it.

LOSER: Berglind Thorvaldsdottir

When you play for a star-studded team like Barcelona, it's understandable that one or two outstanding individuals will be overlooked and underrated, such is the amount of quality on show every time they step out onto the pitch.One player who really feels like she is yet to receive the plaudits she deserves, though, is Mariona Caldentey. To see her grab everyone's attention on Thursday with one of the most outrageous goals the competition will see all season, then, was pleasing.<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/watch-barcelona-women-s-star-caldentey-scores-from-halfway-line-in-uwcl/blte09576229a95d098" target="_blank">The Spaniard spotted Rosengard goalkeeper Teagan Micah off of her line and had the audacity and ability to beat her from halfway, scoring what will immediately be the frontrunner for the UWCL's goal of the season award</a>.Hopefully, it will also put Mariona on the map when it comes to getting the appreciation she deserves as one of the most intelligent and talented footballers on this planet.

The two craziest games of the week almost produced the two biggest shocks of the week, too, with St. Polten taking a 2-0 lead against Roma on Wednesday and Benfica doing the same at home to Bayern Munich on Thursday.Part-time Austrian side St. Polten were looking to secure what would be just their second ever win in the round of 16 in the Champions League – their first only a consolation in an aggregate defeat to Twente in 2019.Benfica, meanwhile, looked like they were building on a promising performance against Bayern in the group stages last season, when they drew 0-0 in Portugal to turn plenty of heads and tell many to keep an eye on them.Sadly for both, it didn't end well, with the neutrals triumphing instead.In Austria, Roma came back to win 4-3 in a ridiculous game of football which the hosts, despite their undoubted pride at coming close to a huge result, will have been particularly disappointed with given the errors involved in some of the goals conceded.A day later, the drama of that game was outdone as Bayern goalkeeper Mala Grohs made up for her mistake on Benfica's second goal to save a penalty at 2-2, before England's Georgia Stanway scored a 98th-minute winner.It was the chaos this sport provides at its very best - unless, of course, you were cheering for the underdog.
