'We’re all Chivas, we all suffer together' - Midfielder Luis Romo backs coach Gabriel Milito after club's slow start

Chivas find themselves near the bottom of the Apertura 2025 standings with just one win in four matches. They have sustained back-to-back defeats against Santos and FC Juárez, dropping to 16th place and facing early pressure.

Their only victory came in Matchday 3, a dramatic 4-3 win over Atlético de San Luis sealed with late goals. Despite the poor run, midfielder Luis Romo stressed that the squad remains fully behind new head coach Gabriel Milito, who arrived this season determined to change the club’s recent struggles.

Romo admitted that the players share the responsibility for the slow start and insisted the blame should not fall solely on the Argentine manager.

“The responsibility is shared between the players and the coaching staff,” Romo said. “Gabi gives us all the tools and the confidence to perform on the pitch. He trusts us to make mistakes and learn from them. Now it’s on us to respond and show more determination. We need to be sharper, avoid conceding soft goals and become more clinical in front of goal.”

With just three points collected from the first four matches, Gabriel Milito holds the second-worst start by a manager under Amaury Vergara’s ownership of Guadalajara. The Argentine sits only above Gerardo Espinoza, who managed just two points during his short stint in charge in the Clausura 2025.

Milito’s early record is a far cry from Ricardo Cadena’s debut run in Clausura 2022, when he earned nine points from his opening four fixtures with Chivas.

Romo addressed the boos that echoed around the stadium in their last outing, seeing them as an opportunity for the squad to refocus.

“We spoke about the boos. The fans deserve a team that plays with intensity and full commitment. If one of us gets booed, it’s on all of us. We have to turn that negative energy into motivation and take more responsibility as a group,” he explained.

The midfielder closed by stressing that the support goes both ways.

“Since Gabi arrived, he’s demanded the best from us every day and given us the freedom to play with confidence. He believes in us in every one-on-one, and now it’s our turn to back him," he said. "When results don’t come, the coach is always the easy target, but we’re all Chivas, we all suffer together. The only way forward is to stay united, be smarter, and keep insisting on our style."

Milito’s side now turns its focus to Friday’s Matchday 5 clash against Xolos of Tijuana, looking to secure their second win of the campaign.
