USWNT veteran on the move! Washington Spirit sign Casey Krueger from Chicago Red Stars

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The United States women's national team veteran penned a three-year deal with Washington Spirit, the NWSL side confirmed on Wednesday. Krueger became a free agent at the end of the MLS 2023 season but had previously spent eight seasons at the Chicago Red Stars.

    After signing for the Washington Spirit, the 33-year-old told the club's official website, "I am beyond excited to be joining the Washington Spirit. From the outstanding leadership to the incredibly talented roster, it is clear that this is a world class organization that’s leading the way in women’s football. I look forward to continuing my growth as a player in the Nation’s Capital and helping the team accomplish even more success."

    The former Chicago Red Stars defender, who made her debut for the USWNT in 2016, has earned 42 international caps in her career. In July 2020, the footballer got engaged to her long-term partner Cody Krueger and the couple tied the knot later in December. In July 2022, she gave birth to her first child.

    WHAT NEXT?

    The new season of the NWSL will witness an expansion as two new teams, Utah Royals and Bay FC, are set to join the league. The 2024 campaign is set to kick off on March 16.
