USMNT star Christian Pulisic explains 'Donald Trump dance' goal celebration, says he was not making a political statement

ST. LOUIS - Christian Pulisic scored the first and second goals in a 4-2 win over Jamaica Monday night as the USMNT booked their place in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal. After his first goal, the American star went to the corner, broke into a version of the viral "Donald Trump Dance" and was joined by Weston McKennie and Ricardo Pepi in the celebration.

Pulisic joined the recent list of athletes doing the so-called “Trump Dance” as a way to celebrate. Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers did the dance after scoring a touchdown on Sunday, saying it was inspired by UFC star Jon Jones, who did the dance over the weekend at UFC 309 in Madison Square Garden. Pulisic cited both as his reasoning for doing the dance, which he said was viral bit of fun.

"I saw everyone doing it yesterday in the NFL, I saw Jon Jones do it, and we were just having a bit of fun," Pulisic said of the celebration. "I thought it was a pretty fun dance. Obviously, that's the 'Trump Dance' but it was just a dance that everyone was doing. He's the one who created it, and I thought it was funny."

He added: "It's not a political dance. It was just for fun. I saw a bunch of people do it and thought it was funny, so I enjoyed it."

Pulisic has been in incredible form for club and country and has now contributed to four goals across three games since Mauricio Pochettino took over.

He assisted Yunus Musah in the win over Panama in November before missing the trip to Mexico that same camp. He didn't lose a step during the November window, though, as he assisted Ricardo Pepi in Jamaica before scoring twice in Monday's win in St. Louis.

With the goals, he passed Eric Wynalda for fourth all-time on the USMNT goalscoring chart with 35 goals, putting him behind just Jozy Altidore, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey.

Pulisic will now rejoin AC Milan for a huge match this weekend, as he and Yunus Musah will lead Milan into a clash with Weston McKennie, Tim Weah and Juventus on Saturday.
