USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso completes move to Real Betis as club announce signing with Home Alone style video

United States men's national team midfielder Johnny Cardoso has officially completed his move to La Liga side Real Betis, the club announced on Tuesday. The 22-year-old, who made his senior professional debut for Brazilian top division side Internacional, leaves the club after four years to play in Europe. Betis announced the signing with a Home Alone themed video.

Los Verdiblancos have been linked with the American player for quite some time now and it was initially speculated that he would join the Spanish club before the start of the 2024/25 season. But they have now preponed his arrival and will register him once the transfer window opens in January. Cardoso will sign a deal that runs until 2029.

Johnny has appeared in nine international matches for the USMNT since making his debut in 2020. Most recently, he was part of Gregg Berhalter's squad that faced Germany and Ghana in international friendlies back in October.

Manuel Pellegrini's side currently find themselves seventh in the league with 28 points from 18 matches. After the brief winter break, the club will resume action on January 3 in La Liga when they face Celta Vigo. As for Johnny, he will look to make his La Liga debut as soon as possible, while working to impress the eyes of USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter.
