WHAT HAPPENED?
Brooklyn FC have announced a big name in the American soccer landscape as one of the faces of the franchise. Weah will join an ownership setup run by North Sixth Group ahead of the franchise's official kickoff in August.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Weah has deep connections to New York. The Juventus winger was born in Brooklyn, and was part of the New York Red Bulls setup until 2014 - before moving to Europe to continue his career with PSG.
From there on, he had stints with Celtic, Lille and now - Juventus.

Weah commented on his new role: "I am grateful for the opportunity to join Brooklyn Football Club’s ownership team and strengthen our connection to the people of New York, the borough I was born in, and the city I love,” Weah said. "BKFC is a grassroots-oriented club, focused on providing not only top-level professional football but new pathways and opportunities for women and men off the pitch as well."

The Juventus winger's attention turns to USMNT duty, where the Brooklyn native is expected to start for Gregg Berhalter's side at Copa America this summer. Brooklyn, meanwhile, will start their first season as a franchise as part of the USL Super League this summer.
