On Friday morning, England announced their squad list for Tuchel's first two games in charge of the Three Lions. He has picked the likes of AC Milan right-back Kyle Walker, forgotten Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson and Newcastle United's Dan Burn, who gets his first Three Lions call-up at the age of 32.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Social media was, understandably, overrun by bemusement and curiosity at Tuchel's selections.

X user @Warren_Evans said: "Can definitely tell Tuchel’s been working from home."

@Im_RobM added: "England want to win the World Cup in 2026 and Dan Burn is getting a call up in 2025. Gareth Southgate, all is forgiven."

Tottenham fan @freddymcnab1 said: "Kyle Walker in the big 2025, yk [Djed] Spence don’t deserve this."

Nottingham Forest fan @RileyNFFC_ said: "Tuchel might need to go before we’ve even played a game."

@bethjjackson said: "This is pretty diabolical to be honest. Jordan Henderson in 2025 over players like Gibbs-White / Gallagher is crazy work. Can only think he wants some leadership experience/winners in the team."

@lukeWilko1878 concluded: "Jordan Henderson is the England squad..... I'd seriously sack Tuchel."

There was, however, at least one person in the new manager's corner, with @ciaren_ryan saying: "Won round by Tuchel already ffs buying me an England baseball cap."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tuchel has reportedly been willing to afford all eligible players a clean slate, regardless of their statuses during Gareth Southgate's stint with England. Marcus Rashford, who fell out of favour in Southgate's final months, has been reinstated for example.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR TUCHEL?

England are set to begin the Tuchel era later this month when they face off against Albania and Latvia at Wembley in the first two rounds of the World Cup qualifiers.
