  • In-form forward initially left out of squad
  • Stepped in for the injured Sargent
  • Fired Berhalter's men to another major final
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The United States required extra-time in order to battle their way beyond Jamaica and into another continental final. They conceded inside 60 seconds of their semi-final fixture, and required a 96th-minute own goal to send the tie beyond normal time.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wright, who entered the fray just past the hour mark, took over from there as the in-form Coventry City striker bagged a dramatic brace and wrapped up a 3-1 win. Said outing was the 25-year-old’s first since facing the Netherlands in the last-16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Wright had initially been left out of Gregg Berhalter’s squad for the Nations League finals, but was eventually drafted in as a replacement for the injured Josh Sargent. He grabbed that opportunity with both hands, becoming the first player to score multiple goals as a substitute for the USMNT in a knockout match.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR THE USMNT?

The United States now have major silverware in their sights, as they look to defend their Nations League crown against Mexico. No other nation has claimed that title as yet, with the U.S. emerging victorious in the first two stagings of the competition in 2021 and 2023.
