Romano - Suwarso call Marotta: Como and Inter strike a "pact" for Chalobah, there is an alternative

Como and Inter are going head to head in the transfer market, but there is a fresh twist: a "pact" over Trevoh Chalobah.

For days, Como and Inter have both been tracking the Chelsea centre-back. He is not the only target to have put the two clubs on the same trail, after the Nico Paz saga and the reports over Khalaili.

An all-out clash? Not quite. The two clubs have been in contact and agreed a sort of deal, at least when it comes to the race for the English centre-back.

  • SUWARSO CALLS MAROTTA: “PACT” FOR CHALOBAH

According to what was reported by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, in the last few hours Como president Mirwan Suwarso has spoken directly to his Inter counterpart Giuseppe Marotta.

The phone call was designed to kill off rumours of bad relations between the clubs, but it also gave the Larian side the chance to send Inter a clear message over the Chalobah affair.

As Romano highlights, Como have told Inter they do not want to get dragged into any bidding war for the defender: they will therefore only raise their offer if Inter choose not to proceed with the player.

  • INTER AND CHALOBAH

A major boost for Inter, who already had the player's approval.

Chalobah, Romano says, is waiting for Inter, with the club already holding an agreement in principle with him over what his contract could look like after talks between the Viale della Liberazione hierarchy and the player's entourage.

There is, however, still no agreement with Chelsea, who are waiting for a formal offer before formal negotiations begin.

  • Como and Chalobah

Como are in a different position, having already taken concrete steps with the Blues.

Como submitted an offer of €25 million plus bonuses, but Chelsea rejected the approach and are asking for around €10 million more.

That move confirmed Como's intention not to improve their bid, at least until it becomes clear whether Inter will make a move for Chalobah or not.

  • THE ALTERNATIVES FOR COMO

Como, who are meanwhile close to completing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for YanCouto on the flank, still have other names in their notebook.

The Lariani want two centre-backs: one could be Mamadou Sarr of Chelsea, while the leading alternative to Chalobah is Davinson Sanchez of Galatasaray , whom they have now been tracking for a year. The latter, who unfortunately missed his penalty in the shootout that saw Colombia knocked out by Switzerland in the World Cup last-16 after an excellent display, appears to be the more clearly defined profile if Inter make a move for Chalobah.
