Roma target former Inter player to strengthen defence in January

Roma have no plans to slow down. In January, they will look to strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini's squad to keep competing at the top of the league and beyond.

Alongside a signing out wide, Roma also want another defensive reinforcement. According to Fichajes, one name already under consideration is Lorenzo Pirola.

  • Eyes on Pirola

Roma want a young but reliable centre-back, preferably right-footed and strong in the air, who can come in for one of Ghilardi or Koulierakis, who has not impressed Gasperini.

According to Fichajes, one possible candidate is Lorenzo Pirola, born in 2002 and currently owned by Olympiakos. He came through Inter's youth ranks and has played for Monza and Salernitana.

  • Finally a starter

Pirola was considered one of Italy's best defensive prospects at a young age, but fitness problems and injuries held him back early in his career.

In Greece, he is finally getting regular starts under Imanol Alguacil and has started all 12 of his appearances across Champions League qualifying, the Europa League and the league.

  • Low-cost opportunity

Pirola joined Olympiacos from Salernitana for €3 million in the summer of 2024. His contract expires on 30 June 2028, which could make him a low-cost option for Roma.
