Bayern are edging closer to securing Kompany as their new head coach, but negotiations with Burnley are proving to be a hurdle. Although the club have already reached a verbal agreement with him, they are yet to make a breakthrough in talks with Burnley as the English outfit demand €20 million (£17m/$22m) in compensation, according to Sky.

Bayern are reportedly hesitant to meet this high fee, but negotiations between the two clubs continue. However, the Clarets are holding firm on their financial demands as Kompany remains contractually bound to them until 2028. The financial windfall from Kompany’s potential departure could be reinvested into the team, aiding their efforts to rebuild as they aim to bounce back from Championship to the top-fight in the 2025-26 season.

Kompany began his managerial career at Anderlecht, initially as a player-coach in the 2019-20 season and later as the head coach until 2022. His move to Burnley marked a new chapter, where he continued to build his reputation as a promising manager. Under his guidance, Burnley smashed their way into the Premier League but found themselves lacking when they locked horns with the big boys of the English top flight before eventually getting relegated back to the second tier.

If Kompany finalises his move to Bayern, he will face the considerable challenge of revitalising a club accustomed to dominance. Bayern, known for their high standards and competitive nature, endured a trophyless season, heightening the pressure on the new manager. Before that, the German outfit must shake hands with Burnley on the negotiating table over an acceptable transfer fee.
