Revealed: Egypt XI to face Morocco - El Shenawy benched as Salah leads attack

The 33-year-old Zamalek goalkeeper has been preferred to start between the sticks ahead of Al Ahly’s Mohamed El Shenawy, who managed two clean sheets in the group stage and was also in top form against the Elephants in the Round of 16 fixture.

The 32-year-old Al Ahly player was deployed into the right-back role in the game against Ivory Coast and performed very well and will continue in the same position against their North African rivals.

After missing two matches in the group stage, the Zamalek player returned to action against Ivory Coast after benching Al Ahly’s Ayman Ashraf and coach Queiroz has retained him in the same role.

The 31-year-old, who features for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, will keep his position and is expected to lead the Pharaohs from the back.

The 22-year-old started in the game against Sudan in the absence of Zamalek’s Mahmoud Hamdi El Wensh and was then handed the same role against Ivory Coast in the Round of 16.

His performance has forced coach Queiroz to stick with him at the back.

Kamal’s performance against the Elephants was exceptional, as he managed lethal Ivorian attackers led by Sebastien Haller, Nicolas Pepe, Franck Kessie and Wilfried Zaha.

The 29-year-old Arsenal player has started in all matches for Egypt at the Afcon and he gets another chance to help his side progress to the last four.

The Galatasaray player started Afcon as a centre-forward but he was handed the attacking midfield role against Ivory Coast. He has another chance to shine in the same position against their North African rivals.

The 30-year-old is another player from Al Ahly who has made it to the starting XI at the expense of Hamdi Fathi, who was preferred to start in the win against Ivory Coast.

The 22-year-old, who plays for Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart on loan from Wolfsburg, will keep his position as the Pharaohs seek to reach a record eight Afcon titles in Cameroon.

The Liverpool star scored from the penalty spot as Egypt tossed out Ivory Coast and he will be searching for more when he comes up against the Atlas Lions.
