  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Eze and Guehi were instrumental as Crystal Palace beat Liverpool on penalties to win the Community Shield for the first time in the club’s history. Arsenal are keen on Eze, who is valued at around £65 million, while Liverpool are expected to move for Guehi. Despite the trophy win, the Eagles face the prospect of losing two of their most important players, and Parish's comments have not eased minds.

  • WHAT PARISH SAID

Speaking to Hayters TV, Parish was asked about the importance of Eze and Guehi staying, he said: “Yeah, of course, but listen, players come and go in football clubs. I mean, it’s a life cycle, isn’t it? Hopefully, they’ll still be here, that’s what I’d like. But we’ll see."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Oliver Glasner, who led Palace to their first major trophy last season, has only welcomed two new signings so far this summer. The Austrian has voiced frustration over the lack of additions, with the club struggling to meet market prices. Losing Eze and Guehi would leave significant gaps, particularly with the season about to begin.

Speaking about the lack of transfer, Parish added: “It’s difficult. We have an outstanding 15 or 16 players, trying to get that level of quality in is hard. The prices – at the end of day, we’re Crystal Palace. The money at every football club is finite at some point. We will do what we can, try and help where we can. We all want to be better at football as we will try and do what we can.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR CRYSTAL PALACE?

The Eagles open their Premier League campaign against Chelsea on Sunday, August 17. Crystal Palace will aim to hold onto Eze and Guehi, but firm offers from Arsenal or Liverpool could test their resolve. Much may depend on how quickly the FA Cup champions can bring in reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
