  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking to BeIn Sport ahead of Marseille's home fixture against Lille — where the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw — Payet urged his former France international team-mate to join OM, who are one of the favourites to land his signature. This is after Pogba's doping ban was recently reduced to 18 months, leaving him free to play again in March 2025.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Payet played for OM from 2013-2015 and then from 2017-2023 after he left West Ham to return to France. With 78 goals scored and 326 games played for the French outfit he's rightly considered a club legend and is always welcome back at the Stade Velodrome. It was here where, speaking to the media, he commented on Paul Pogba's future.

  • WHAT PAYET SAID

Payet said, with Pogba seeing a reunion with ex-Manchester United team-mate Mason Greenwood speculated on: "Like all Marseille supporters, of course it's a dream [for Pogba to join the club]. After that, whether it's true or not, I can't tell you more. I've rubbed shoulders with him in the national team, he's rubbed shoulders with other former Marseille players, he knows where he's going. He's already played here, a club like Marseille can only be beneficial for him."

    WHAT NEXT FOR POGBA?

With pros like Payet and Adrien Rabiot — who said earlier this year that he "would like to play with Paul" — urging Pogba to join Marseille, the pressure is building for the 31-year-old as he prepares himself for a return to the world of football. Whether this pressure will help secure a transfer is yet to be seen, although a cryptic hint dropped by the man himself on social media suggests that Pogba might already have a final destination lined up.
