2025: Injuries meant that Kuol didn't get his season going until January, and he is currently earning minutes for Newcastle's Under-21s.

2024: The Gunners managed to tie Nwaneri down over the summer of 2023, and he made regular appearances in Mikel Arteta's matchday squad over the course of the following campaign.

2025: Whether playing in central midfield or out wide on the right, Nwaneri has impressed all who have seen him play in the Gunners' first team during 2024-25, with the 17-year-old now fully established as one of English football's top young talents having found the net in both the Premier League and Champions League.

He finished that campaign with 21 goals, and then neted twice in his first five La Liga appearance upon his arrival in Spain. However, it soon became clear that Xavi didn't fancy him, and he struggled for opportunities thereafter.

    Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)

2023: Yamal was already being mobbed outside Barcelona's training ground as he waited for his first-team debut, with the then-15-year-old having been likened to Lionel Messi as he came through at La Masia.

2024: The forward well and truly broke out in 2023-24 as he broke countless records for Barcelona and Spain. Yamal was already being dubbed Barca's most important player by the end of the campaign, and he then played a leading role for Spain as they won Euro 2024, with some even believing he should have been named Player of the Tournament.

2025: While his goal and assist numbers aren't yet setting the world alight, Yamal's all-round game has led to him being described as the best player in La Liga despite not yet being 18, and there is genuine Ballon d'Or buzz surrounding the teenager.

  • NXGN Nine: Mohamed-Ali Cho (Real Sociedad)

2023: Having broken out as young star in Ligue 1 for Angers, Cho had joined Real Sociedad for €11m in the summer of 2023. However, he had struggled with injury issues since arriving in San Sebastian.

2024: Having made just one league start in the first half of the season, Cho was sold to Nice for €12m in January 2024, and he appeared regularly upon his return to France.

2025: Cho is a regular starter at Nice, where he has chipped in with the odd goal and assist through the campaign.

    NXGN Nine: Endrick (Palmeiras)

2023: Endrick was being dubbed the biggest Brazilian talent since Neymar, and after scoring three goals in his first seven senior appearances, he agreed to join Real Madrid for €60m in January 2023, though he will not move to Spain until the summer of 2024, when he turns 18.

2024: Endrick's first full season of senior football ended with him scoring 11 league goals, including some crucial strikes in the run-in as Palmeiras defended the Brasilerao title. He also began to make his mark on the Brazil national team by scoring against England and Spain, among others.

2025: The forward arrived in Madrid ahead of the 2024-25 season, and despite scoring on both his La Liga and Champions League debuts, his opportunities have been limited due to the Blancos' star-studded attack monopolising the minutes.

  • NXGN Nine: Gavi (Barcelona)

2023: Another potential superstar to emerge from Barcelona's famed La Masia academy, Gavi had been a regular in the line-up for both the Blaugrana and Spain, with his performances having earned him the Golden Boy award.

2024: The midfielder again impressed during the early weeks of the 2023-24 season, but suffered a season-ending ACL tear while playing for Spain in November.

2025: Gavi returned to action in October, but he is yet to show his best level as yet while rotating in and out of the Barca XI.er.

NXGN Nine: Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United)

2023: After joining United from Atletico Madrid in 2020, Garnacho was the star of the FA Youth Cup-winning team two years later. The winger had carried that form into his first season with the senior squad as he became a new fan-favourite at Old Trafford.

2024: Garnacho took his game to another level in 2023-24, proving to be a bright spot in a dark season for United, while his remarkable overhead-kick goal against Everton ended up winning him the prestigious Puskas Award.

2025: The winger hasn't quite hit the same levels this term, while questions have been asked of his attitude as he looks to find a role in Ruben Amorim's favoured system.

  • Arda Guler Fenerbahce 2022-23Getty Images

    NXGN Nine: Arda Guler (Fenerbahce)

2023: Dubbed 'the Turkish Messi' eve since breaking into the Fenerbahce first team in 2021, Guler was a regular goal-scorer and assist-provider despite not starting as many games as most onlookers would have liked.

2024: Real Madrid beat Barcelona to the signing of Guler in the summer of 2023, paying €20m to do so, though injuries largely ruined the Turkey international's first campaign in the Spanish capital before he eventually finished the season by scoring six goals in seven games.

2025: The arrival of Kylian Mbappe at the Bernabeu has pushed Guler further down the pecking order, and he may be forced to leave to earn more opportunities going forward.

  • Romeo Lavia Southampton 2022-23Getty Images

    NXGN Nine: Romeo Lavia (Southampton)

2023: Lavia had been a star performer within the Manchester City academy before joining Southampton in a £10.5m deal in the summer of 2022. The midfielder was then acquitting himself excellently despite the Saints struggling in the Premier League.

2024: Chelsea beat Liverpool to Lavia's signature ahead of the 2023-24 season, paying £58m for the privilege, but the Belgian made just one Premier League appearance for the Blues due to a series of injury problems.

2025: Injuries have continued to plague Lavia, and while he has managed more appearances this time around than in his debut campaign, Chelsea are still waiting for him to show his best in a blue shirt.

NXGN Nine: Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)

2023: A goalscoring machine at youth level, Moukoko had broken countless records after breaking into the Dortmund first team at 16, and was the youngest player at the 2022 World Cup after earning a call-up from Germany amid his best season at senior level to date.

2024: The striker slipped down the pecking order at Signal Iduna Park, and managed to make just four Bundesliga starts over the course of the 2023-24 campaign.

2025: Moukoko joined Nice on a season-long loan deal in a bid for more minutes, but he has not settled in France, and has barely featured in Ligue 1.

NXGN Nine: Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich)

2023: Having become the youngest player in Rennes history, Tel had earned a €20m move to Bayern in the summer of 2022, and quickly became the club's youngest-ever scorer in the Bundesliga with one of his many goals off the bench.

2024: Tel continued to be patient when it came to earning starting opportunities at the Allianz Arena, but he made some telling contributions off the bench, with his pace and directness proving tough to deal with for defenders.

2025: Chances proved harder to come by for Tel under Vincent Kompany's management, and he was thus loaned to Tottenham in January, with Spurs expected to make that move permanent come the summer.

  • Warren Zaire-Emery PSG 2022-23Getty Images

NXGN Nine: Warren Zaire-Emery (Paris Saint-Germain)

2023: The youngest debutant, starter and goal-scorer in PSG history, Zaire-Emery was making an impact on the star-studded first team at Parc des Princes despite largely playing out of position on the right-hand side.

2024: Moved to his favoured central midfield role, Zaire-Emery took his game to new levels in 2023-24, while he also marked his France debut with a goal.

2025: Amid increased competition for places, Zaire-Emery hasn't quite hit the same heights as yet this season, though he remains one of the top teenage talents in the game.
