Arteta began his coaching career at Manchester City under the guidance of the legendary Pep Guardiola immediately following his retirement in 2016. Arsenal approached Arteta to take over at the Emirates after they sacked Unai Emery in the winter of 2019. The Spaniard immediately made the switch over to his former club and has been a marvel in north London.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Since his takeover at the club, Arteta has rekindled a lost spark in Arsenal as the Gunners have put up two straight Premier League title challenges against Guardiola's well-oiled Manchester City sides. Due to his history with City, it has been reported that the eight-time Premier League champions will make a move for Arteta once Guardiola leaves the Etihad. The same has been predicted by former Arsenal and Chelsea star William Gallas, but he believes Arteta will turn down the offer in order to stay at Arsenal.

    WHAT GALLAS SAID

Speaking to Lord Ping, Gallas said: "I think Manchester City could come in for Mikel Arteta when Pep Guardiola leaves, but I think Arteta will reject it.

"He has done so well with Arsenal and it looks like he is still committed for the long-term, he won’t give up that connection to the board. If City do come in for Mikel Arteta, he would reject it."
