After lifting the 2025 Gold Cup trophy with the Mexican national team, Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa has set his sights on a historic goal: becoming the first player to be selected in six FIFA World Cups. With the 2026 tournament fast approaching - and set to be hosted jointly by Mexico, the United States, and Canada - Ochoa remains motivated and hungry to compete.
Although he didn’t feature in any matches during the Gold Cup, Ochoa captained the squad and played a vital leadership role from the sidelines, mentoring younger keepers like Luis Ángel Malagón and Raúl Rangel. His presence in the locker room underlined his value beyond the pitch.
"I'm going to fight for a place in the World Cup," Ochoa stated firmly. "I'm not asking for favors - I want to earn it. It would be incredible to be part of that tournament. I train and compete every day with my club to stay at the highest level. People who have followed my career know how much I've given, and they know I’ll continue giving everything if I get the chance."
