  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Just before 7:30 pm local time, Balotelli reportedly lost control of his automobile and slammed into a wall in Orzinuovi, close to his hometown of Brescia, according to Sky Italia. The impact of the collision prompted the airbags to inflate, and no other cars were involved. The 33-year-old was able to free himself from his car and lie down before paramedics arrived to see to him. Despite the vehicle being described as "destroyed" and images of the wreckage appearing on social media, he apparently avoided major injury.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

SportMediaset [via The Mirror] claims that Balotelli defied police efforts by consenting to a breathalyser test. Currently living in Turkey after he signed with Adana Demirspor in September, he was given permission by his team to recuperate from an injury at home in Italy.

The incident occurred the same week when Balotelli publicly stated his desire to rejoin the Italy squad, despite receiving his last of 36 caps five years ago. The comments came after the Azzurri qualified for Euro 2024, despite only attaining a 0-0 draw with Ukraine in their last group match.
