  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The France international, who has previously taken in two spells at Old Trafford, is currently a free agent after seeing his contract at Juventus terminated. That decision was taken as Pogba continues to serve a doping ban – with an initial four-year suspension being reduced to 18 months on appeal.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pogba will be free to resume his professional career in March 2025, but will need to find a club prior to that so that he can join training and begin working on his fitness. There have been suggestions that he could be invited to rejoin the Red Devils’ ranks.

  • WHAT YORKE SAID

Yorke believes the 31-year-old midfielder is worth taking a gamble on, with the former frontman telling Sports Lens: “Paul Pogba is better than what we have, that's for sure. Whether the fans will welcome him back and make life easy for him, I don’t know, that could be the problem he faces.

“A fit Pogba, playing football the way he can play football, will definitely add value to the team. He's a sensational player; he's a really good talent. He offers that little bit of an X-factor by being there. He does things that no other players can do. I would think with the ban, being out of football he'll have a little bit of a point to prove. He doesn't drink, he obviously looks after himself, so you can take a punt on a two-year deal.

“I would review it. I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at it. I would really consider it. Why would you not? When you look at what we have in midfield, Pogba coming into that would instantly improve things.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR POGBA?

Pogba has not played a competitive game since early September 2023, but his pedigree remains without question. Alongside the talk of returning to United, the World Cup winner has also been linked with Ligue 1 outfit Marseille and several teams in MLS.
