  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The controversial moment came in the 33rd minute at the Gtech Community Stadium, when Matthijs de Ligt went down injured but Taylor did not stop the game, allowing Kevin Schade to head the Bees into the lead. Speaking on Monday Night Football, however, the official was adamant he had made the right call.

    WHAT TAYLOR SAID

Taylor said: "The main consideration was my responsibility is to decide if De Ligt is seriously injured or not. In this situation because he's sitting up I don't consider that serious and allowed the game to continue. It's probably more a foul on [Yoane] Wissa than the other way."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Premier League referees are generally asked to consider a serious injury as a knock to the head, otherwise the game will be allowed to continue. Brentford went on to win the game 4-3 and ensure they will finish above United this season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

The success of United's campaign hinges on Thursday's Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Club - a tie they lead 3-0 on aggregate - and the final they are now expected to qualify for, against Tottenham or Bodo-Glimt.
