Man Utd enter Mathys Tel race - but move for want-away Bayern forward depends on Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho sale

The highly-rated teenager, who joined Bayern Munich from Rennes in 2022 for £20 million (€23.9m/$25m), has decided to seek an exit from the German champions before the transfer deadline. His desire to leave has sparked interest from multiple clubs, including Chelsea, who have recently enquired about his availability.

According to Sky Sports Germany, United's interest in Tel could advance if either Rashford or Garnacho is sold. The Red Devils are reportedly keeping their options open, preparing to make a move should one of their key forwards depart. This is not the first time United have been associated with Tel. The club was heavily linked with the forward during the January transfer window last year. However, Tel ultimately remained in Munich, where he hoped to establish himself as a key player.

Barcelona are rumoured to be among the clubs monitoring Rashford's situation, with the English forward open to a transfer if the right opportunity arises. Meanwhile, Garnacho is also at the centre of transfer speculation with Chelsea and Napoli believed to be interested in securing his services.

After an impressive 2022-23 campaign where Tel made 41 appearances, scored 10 goals and provided six assists, his involvement has drastically reduced this term as the forward has managed only 13 appearances so far, with just three starts to his name. Nonetheless, if United can secure his signature, Tel could prove to be a valuable addition, especially in light of their ambitions to rebuild under Ruben Amorim. However, with intense competition and Bayern's initial reluctance to let the player go, the transfer is far from a certainty.
