The Portuguese defender, who stayed in the summer, has been rewarded with a new deal

Lecce reward loyalty. Centre-back Tiago Gabriel, born in 2004, attracted interest for a long time from several clubs, including top-level sides, but in the end he stayed to defend the colours of the Salento club.

President Sticchi Damiani has now chosen to reward that decision, offering him a new contract with a later expiry date and a pay rise in recognition of the big strides he has made.

    Throughout the summer, Jorge Mendes worked with several clubs to explore the possibility of moving his client. AC Milan came closest to signing the defender, formerly of Estrela Amadora and a product of Sporting Lisbon's youth academy, but Lecce ultimately resisted interest from them and the Premier League.

    The previous contract, due to expire on 30 June 2027, therefore at the end of the season, included a clause allowing the Salento club to trigger a two-year extension until 30 June 2029 automatically.

    But according to Fabrizio Romano, Lecce have now agreed a new deal with the player and Jorge Mendes, including a pay rise, with the new expiry date set for 30 June 2030.
