THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite his monumental contributions, Mbappe's exit from PSG was anything but smooth. PSG, eager to secure a transfer fee, even excluded him from their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea during the summer of 2023. And in February, he announced his decision to leave on a free transfer, a move that led to reduced game time in his final months at the club. The strained relationship between Mbappe and PSG’s hierarchy, including tensions with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, became public knowledge. Disputes over a €55 million bonus further exacerbated the divide.
GettyWHAT NEXT FOR MBAPPE?
Since joining Real Madrid in the summer, Mbappe has already tasted success. He scored in both the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, adding two trophies to his collection. However, Real Madrid’s ambitions remain high as they aim to defend their La Liga and Champions League titles and Mbappe, with already 13 goals in 23 appearances this season, is poised to play a pivotal role in these pursuits.
