Kristie Mewis is a West Ham player! USWNT star joins Chelsea hero and fiancee Sam Kerr in the WSL as Hammers make official announcement

The 32-year-old has joined the Women's Super League team from Gotham after helping the New Jersey team secure the NWSL title.

"I am delighted to be joining West Ham United. I have always wanted to play in the Women’s Super League and now that everything has fallen into place, it feels like a dream come true," Mewis told West Ham TV. When I visited London for the first time, I went to my first football match at Upton Park. The culture and energy of West Ham captivated me straightaway and nothing has ever lived up to that moment – it was one of the happiest days of my life. It feels like I have come a full circle from that moment and it’s incredible to now be officially part of the West Ham family. I will work hard, try to lead by example and give everything for this badge.

Mewis spent just one year at Gotham FC, having joined the club from fellow NWSL side Houston Dash, where she spent four years. She goes from competing at the top of the NWSL to a struggling West Ham team sitting level on points with bottom team Bristol City.

The move to the London side puts Mewis in the same city as her fiancee, Chelsea and Australia forward Sam Kerr. The pair have been engaged to be married since last month, having been in a relationship for over two years.

Mewis could make her West Ham debut against her fiancee as they take on Chelsea at home in the FA Cup on January 14. Failing that, she will likely feature in the WSL clash against London rivals Tottenham a week later.
