The veteran manager asked a ball boy on the sidelines to pass a chit, which had instructions written on it, to AS Roma goalkeeper Patricio during the dying moments of their match against Fiorentina.

Romelu Lukaku handed Roma the lead in the fifth minute of the match but the hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 64th after Nicola Zaleski was sent off. Two minutes later, Lucas Quarta restored parity for Fiorentina. In the 87th minute, Giallorossi faced yet another blow when Lukaku was sent off and they were reduced to nine players. At that moment, Mourinho chalked out a new plan - so that his team could walk out with at least a point - which was passed on to Patricio.

Despite dropping two crucial points, Mourinho's side have managed to hold on to the fourth position on the league table as they now have 25 points from 15 matches, 13 less than league leaders Inter.

Mourinho, on the other hand, could face a suspension after he made controversial statements against a Serie A referee before the club's clash against Sassuolo.

Roma will be next seen in action against Sheriff on Thursday in the Europa League before they face Bologna in the Serie A on Sunday.
