  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Gianluca di Marzio,Napoli have made a move for Sancho, just days after completing the signing of Manchester City icon Kevin De Bruyne. THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sancho spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Chelsea after falling out with ex-Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag. Despite an inconsistent start, he found some form by the end of the season, contributing five goals and ten assists. However, his efforts were not enough to convince Chelsea to keep the English winger permanently for a £25 million ($34m) fee as they instead opted to pay a £5m ($7m) compensation fee to send him back to Old Trafford.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Sancho joined Manchester United in 2021 in a blockbuster £72.9m ($99m) transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Recouping the full amount spent on Sancho is considered highly unlikely, but a loan with an obligation or option to buy may still appeal to all parties. Apart from Napoli, he has also been linked with a move back to Borussia Dortmund.

    WHAT NEXT?

As Napoli continue to target big names from the Premier League, the possibility of seeing Sancho joining ex-United team-mate Scott McTominay at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium grows stronger. With the 2026 World Cup looming large on the horizon, a move to Napoli might be the perfect recipe for the England international to rejuvenate his sinking career.
