Jadon Sancho dropped? Roma close in on Chelsea's Tyrique George after Man Utd winger fails to respond to offer on time

The Serie A club had reached an agreement with Manchester United for a loan move with an option to buy worth around £20 million ($29m). But Sancho failed to respond to the offer by the Wednesday deadline Roma that had set. His high wages have long been an issue and after weeks of waiting the club have reportedly decided to move on. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have now switched their attention to Chelsea graduate George, who made quite an impression last season in his limited appearances. 

The 19-year-old winger impressed under Enzo Maresca last season, scoring three goals and adding five assists in 27 appearances. His potential has also attracted interest from RB Leipzig and several Premier League clubs. Roma are exploring a permanent transfer rather than a loan, which would bring Chelsea a fee of around €22 million (£19m/$25m. However, the Club World Cup champions are pushing to include a 30 per cent resale clause, a key detail that still needs to be agreed.

Sancho’s situation has dragged on all summer. The out-of-favour winger has been frustrating United with his wage demands and agent requests holding up his Old Trafford exit. The 25-year-old has also ruled out a switch to Besiktas, while previous links to Juventus and even a possible return to Borussia Dortmund have so far led nowhere.

Roma will now intensify talks with Chelsea for George as they look to finalise a deal before the window shuts. For Sancho, the list of options is shrinking and time is running out for the winger to find a new club.
