‘Do you want to get in the f*cking film!’ - How Ollie Palmer blagged his way into Deadpool & Wolverine blockbuster alongside Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds

Speculation regarding a cameo role for the Red Dragons striker began to rage as clips from the blockbuster movie filtered out online. Eagle-eyed supporters were convinced that they spotted Palmer in the background of one bar scene involving Hollywood A-lister Reynolds in his role as a Marvel superhero.

Palmer and Reynolds have remained coy regarding their link-up off the field, with neither prepared to admit in public that they will both be credited with appearances in an epic production that has now officially hit screens around the world.

Wrexham star Palmer has, however, told the Men In Blazers podcast during a live show that forms part of the club’s pre-season tour of North America: “I’ve not really spoken about this before, mainly because Ryan asked me not to, but it’s quite obvious that I have a little cameo. If you blink you might miss me. It was just a really, really fun day and a really kind thing for Ryan to do. He originally invited me down to Pinewood Studios to watch him at work – which was quite a nice role reversal. As I do, I kind of managed to blag my way into the film. I took my wife with me to watch him at work, and I think she enjoyed that more than me! I just got way too involved. The director - Shawn Levy, lovely bloke – I started giving him a little bit of advice on what angle I like, the shoot, and I like that clip and I didn’t like that clip. He said to me ‘do you just want to f*cking get in the film?’ And I said ‘yeah’. So I went back a few weeks later and spent the day there. I had a wicked day, they really looked after me. It’s only a short, tiny, little moment but it took a bloody long time filming it! It was a wicked experience, a very unique one that I’m really grateful for. It was a special day that I will always remember.”

Wrexham have played out credible draws with Premier League sides Bournemouth and Chelsea during their time in the United States, with Phil Parkinson’s side now heading north to face MLS outfit the Vancouver Whitecaps in Reynolds’ home town.
