How much?! Fans forced to pay almost £800 for a one-hour kickabout with Man Utd legend Paul Scholes

Ex-England international Scholes, who formed part of the Red Devils’ historic Treble-winning squad in 1999, has signed up for a five-a-side game that will give supporters an opportunity to play alongside their hero.

The match in question will only last 60 minutes and will involve a squad of 15 players. Substitutions will be made every three minutes, meaning that those taking to the field will not get to enjoy a full match in Scholes’ company.

They are, however, parting with £750 plus a service fee of £18.75 for the right to be involved. The game in question will take place on September 3 on the rooftop pitch at Hotel Football in Manchester - which is owned by Scholes’ former team-mates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs.

A source has told The Sun, with the event - which also includes a selfie with Scholes, one autograph, a burger and fries - already sold out: “Every United fan dreams of having a kickabout with their heroes but they will be hoping for ‘Fergie time’ so they get a bit longer on the pitch with Scholesy.”

Old Trafford academy graduate Scholes spent almost 20 years as a first-team star for United, taking in 718 appearances and scoring 155 goals. He won 11 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, three FA Cups, two League Cups, the Intercontinental Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, while also earning 66 caps for England.
