As per the Evening Standard, a three-man defence is seen to offer more defensive stability to a club that has conceded four goals in back-to-back Premier League losses to Wolves and Liverpool. The veteran defender Thiago Silva, who was left dangerously exposed when Wolves ran wild at Stamford Bridge, would also have better protection because of the system tweak. The physically not very strong midfield combo of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, who are struggling, would also have greater cover from an extra defender behind them. Ben Chilwell and Malo Gusto would have greater freedom to play as wing-backs rather than full-backs in the system.
