    The Manchester United legend shared a series of throwback photographs of Messi's early days at Inter Miami as he reflected on the Argentina captain completing one year with the club. He also hailed the legendary attacker for inspiring the next generation of American footballers.

    In his first Instagram story, Beckham uploaded a photo of himself hugging Messi on the day of his unveiling as he wrote, "One year ago today we unveiled someone. The dream came true."

    The ex-England captain then shared a photograph of a kid wearing a Messi shirt and wrote, "This is what it was all about. To inspire the next generation."

    He then shared a photo of Messi showing off his record-extending eighth Ballon d'Or award in front of the Herons fans.

    In his maiden season in America, Messi made 14 appearances across all competitions where he scored 11 goals and provided five assists. He also won his first trophy with Inter Miami as they bagged the inaugural edition of the Leagues Cup. The 2024 MLS season has witnessed Messi in blistering form as he has scored 12 goals in as many league appearances and has contributed with nine assists.

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIONEL MESSI?

    The 37-year-old is likely to miss the upcoming MLS All-Star Game with an ankle injury that he suffered in the Copa America 2024 final. The injury could also keep him out of Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup title defence.
