  • Sporting demand €100m for the forward
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Swedish striker has been in sensational form this season scoring 20 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions in 24 appearances. His prolific form in front of goal has forced several European elites to take note of him and the Premier League outfit is reported to be one of them.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea are ready to offer €85m for Gyokeres but Sporting have no intention of letting him go for anything less than €100 million, which is the release clause in his contract. Manager Ruben Amorim is a huge admirer of the player and reasserted his belief that the club will not buckle unless the English side triggers his clause which will force them to part ways with the striker.

  • WHAT RUBEN AMORIM SAID

Speaking to reporters, Amorim said: "Obviously, I was informed of the news. As soon as they said it was 85, I thought: ‘That’s not enough’. It’s only 100. I’m not worried.

"Obviously, every club has to sell. What they’ve said is that, in the middle of the season, they’ll only leave for the clause. As we can’t control that, I feel quite calm because we can’t do anything about it. Of course, we have to look at Viktor’s impact on the team, we’d have to change a lot of things, hence the board’s endeavour to say that players we can’t afford to lose will only leave for the fee. I haven’t spoken to Viana about that. Nowadays, there are obviously clubs that can easily pay 100, but we don’t control that.

“I’m sure there could be offers in the summer. Right now, I don’t know. We’ll have to sell, but right now only for the clause. It’s hard for anyone to beat 100 million. I doubt there’s been an offer. I’d be informed, I believe. I don’t believe it was true. €85m is far from our value, we’re not going to suffer in anticipation.”

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Sporting forked out just €20m to sign Gyokeres from Coventry City in 2023. Since his joining, the striker has been in explosive form with 30 goal contributions to his name already. The Liga NOS side are in no hurry to sell the player as he is contracted to the club until 2028.

Moreover, Gyokeres himself has insisted that he wants to stay at Sporting and doesn't "care about any interested parties at the moment."

  • WHAT NEXT?

Chelsea are desperately looking at options in the market to solve their goalscoring woes. They are also reportedly open to listening to offers for Armando Broja amid interest from Wolves, West Ham and Fulham. If they manage to get Broja off their books, it is expected that they will pursue a replacement. However, the return of Christopher Nkunku from injury and Nicolas Jackson from the Africa Cup of Nations might force the Blues to reconsider their pursuit of Gyokeres.
