  • WHAT HAPPENED?

A 2017 image of Lampard waving to fans at Stamford Bridge shortly after his retirement was reportedly used on bricks of drugs that were found in duffel bags in Sydney. Australian Federal Police tracked the 95kg shipment of methamphetamine from Los Angeles to Maroubra, in East Sydney, this week. The confiscated drugs were worth £38m.

    WHAT FRANK LAMPARD SAID

The 46-year-old was bemused when shown the photos of the police raid. He told The Sun: “Yeah, you probably know my answer on that one. What am I gonna say about that? I’m not aware of it. I don’t even know what to say to you to be honest. I’ve literally no comment on that.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The reason a photo of Lampard was used is not yet clear. The alleged trafficker, Richard Prothero, was reportedly arrested at gunpoint, with the 37-year-old from South West Sydney's Liverpool suburb later charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of border-controlled drugs. Australian Federal Police Det. Supt. Kristie Cressy said the 60kg of methamphetamine could have been divided up into 600,000 street wraps.
