  • WHAT HAPPENED?

England star James will be one of the favourites to win the accolade after scoring five goals in her two league appearances for Chelsea last month, that including a hat-trick against former club Manchester United. Fox, meanwhile, has settled into life in England brilliantly. The United States women's national team defender signed for Arsenal in the January transfer window and already has an assist to her name.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Manchester City striker Bunny Shaw had a prolific January, too, scoring a hat-trick against Liverpool and netting again against Spurs to earn herself a nomination along with team-mate Laia Alexiandri, who continues to shine in City's defence. Completing the nominees are Leicester's Janice Cayman, scorer of the only goal in the Foxes' win over Everton, and West Ham forward Vivianne Asseyi, who netted a crucial winner in the Hammers' clash with relegation rivals Bristol City last week.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Shaw and James have emerged as the front-runners for the WSL Golden Boot this season, the former having scored 13 times and James just once fewer after 11 rounds of action.

    WHAT NEXT?

While fans vote for the player they believe deserves the Player of the Month accolade, the WSL continues this weekend. Asseyi and Fox will face off as West Ham host Arsenal, Shaw and Aleixandri take on Cayman's Leicester in a home fixture for Man City while James and Chelsea round things off with a clash against Everton on Sunday night.
