Bayer Leverkusen did it! Xabi Alonso's team beat Augsburg to finish Bundesliga season as unbeaten champions - but can they win the treble?

The Bundesliga champions finished their season in style by beating Augsburg 2-1 in front of their home crowd. It marked their 28th win of the campaign and they finished on 90 points. Leverkusen fans were in full voice as the players lifted the trophy they had waited so long to get their hands on.

Bayer Leverkusen's social media accounts were revelling in their success and even begged the team not to score any late goals as they had already prepared their graphics that included several nods to their invincible status. One of their most popular posts was simply titled "WE ARE BUNDESLIGA CHAMPIONS! 🖤❤️"

Alonso has proven himself as an elite coach this season and Leverkusen fans will be delighted for what is to come next term. The Spaniard turning down the Liverpool job ensures that Die Schwarzroten will compete at the top again alongside Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen's work is not yet done. They still have two trophies up for grabs by the end of May, starting with the Europa League final against Atalanta. Should they win that, Alonso's men can go on to complete the treble by beating second-division side FC Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal final a few days later.
