    Kluivert, a Barcelona stalwart of his time and a Holland national team legend, backed soccer's expansion in the years to come. The Dutchman admitted that the arrival of Lionel Messi and growth of MLS has contributed to the change.

    Ahead of La Liga's El Partidazo event in New York, Kluivert told GOAL: "Every time I come to America, you see much more enthusiastic fans and people talking more about football. Now, of course, with all due respect, Messi coming to MLS brings a big audience with him. Don't underestimate the growth of football in the country."

    Kluivert enjoyed a glittering career for Barcelona, scoring 90 goals in 182 league appearances, while winning the 1998-99 league title with the Blaugrana. He is set to appear at La Liga's El Partidazo fan event on March 17 - where he will be the special guest as Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid.
